Stephen Curry is on the verge of making history with his upcoming scripted television role at Peacock, all while he prepares to jet out to Paris for the Olympics. The first trailer for the six-part mockumentary series “Mr. Throwback” has released on the streaming service. In it, the point guard for the Golden State Warriors (played by himself) reunites with his troubled middle school buddy (played by Adam Pally).
Curry, who is also an executive producer, expressed his excitement about entering the world of scripted comedy with “Mr. Throwback,” a narrative centered around love for family and friends. The sportsman premiered the clip on Wednesday morning via his various social media accounts. I think viewers can relate to the characters and the challenges they encounter throughout the series, and I’m excited for them to experience a new side of myself on screen.
Curry, Pally, Ego Nwodim, and Ayden Mayeri are all part of the cast. Guests include Layla Scalisi, Tien Tran, Tracy Letts (who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on “Winning Time,” another basketball series), and Rich Sommer (who appeared on “Clipped,” another basketball series, on FX). All six episodes are directed by David Wain. This show is produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television.
“I am honored to have joined Adam, Ego, Ayden and the producing team of David Caspe, Matthew Libman, Daniel Libman and David Wain to create this series along with Erick Peyton steering the ship at Unanimous Media,” Curry stated as a final statement. Pally is an executive producer in addition to the others mentioned in Curry’s remark.
Beginning August 8, “Mr. Throwback” will air on Peacock. Read on for the trailer.
