A foal named Tye was only 9 days old when he lost his mother; despite getting all the needed treatment, she couldn’t survive. The good news is that on the same night, an Australian dog names Zip was there to comfort Tye. It is interesting how Zip has not shown this behavior with any other foal, as her owner, Karla Swindle says: “We raise foals every year, and he would kind of look in the door and just look at them.”
It really looks like Zip felt that Tye was in need of a friend to help him get through this situation. For six weeks, Zip was always there for Tye. Whenever Swindle went to feed Tye, Zip came for a visit. “Every time I would take off to the barn, Zip would run to the stall, and stand in front of the stall and wait for me to get there.
As soon as I opened the door, he would about knock me down before I could get in there. If the foal was laying down, he would go over there and lay his head on him.”, adds Swindle. Months passed and Tye grew up to into a healthy young horse with the help of his adoptive dad Zip.
Now, Tye spends most of his days with his older sister. While Zip still accompanies Swindle to the barn, he does not go to the stall to visit Tye anymore. Now he knows that Tye has everything he needs around him.
